China Perspective: Practical Advice

From Strategy to Operations
January 2009, Neil Blakeman & Jon Aries

In our whitepaper, Neil & I have written about why China needs to be part of everyone's business strategy; what opportunities and threats are presented; the challenges to doing business with China; what types of presence and engagement are possible; the importance of Chinese partners and ways in which China BPO operators can assist.

Our conclusions include:

  • That China cannot be ignored and needs be factored into your business strategy
  • Small/medium-sized companies (as well as large multi-national corporations) have China opportunities
  • In addition to sourcing, manufacturing and export, China will increasingly be about services and new customer acquisition

We also believe China strategies will following these trends:

  • Exploitation of opportunities in ‘second-tier’ cities and regions outside the established Eastern seaboard areas
  • Increasing engagement at the high-end, in areas such as research, innovation and knowledge-sharing
  • Sourcing of services, including business process outsourcing from China
  • Rich service-orientated partnering agreements to enable new market entry and customer acquisition in the Chinese market

Please continue the debate by posting comments and thoughts below...
